On 24 July (local time), H.E. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique, visited the Nacala Plant of Cimentos de Moçambique, a subsidiary of Huaxin Building Materials Group Co., Ltd., and attended the inauguration ceremony of its expansion and modernization project. The event was attended by representatives from relevant departments of the Central Government of Mozambique, the Provincial Government of Nampula, the Nacala Port District, the Municipality of Nacala, the Mozambique Ports and Railways Company (CFM), and other local stakeholders.
The Nacala Plant expansion and modernization project, featuring a 3,000 tpd clinker production line, was successfully commissioned in November 2024 and has an annual cement production capacity of approximately 1.2 million tonnes. The project has transformed Mozambique’s cement industry by ending its dependence on imported clinker, saving the country an estimated USD 60 million in foreign exchange annually. It has also created around 300 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs. During the visit, Mr. Fernando Barreto dos Santos, General Manager of Cimentos de Moçambique, briefed President Chapo on the project’s construction, production operations, and development achievements.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, President Chapo highly commended Huaxin Building Materials Group for its investment and achievements in Mozambique and expressed his appreciation for the company’s contribution to the country’s economic development. He noted that the project makes full use of Mozambique’s abundant limestone and other local resources, enabling value-added processing within the country while leveraging the advantages of the Port of Nacala and maritime transport to expand into regional markets. He emphasized that the project would play an important role in advancing the country’s industrialization and increasing exports of industrial products. President Chapo further described the project as a successful example of Mozambique’s industrialization strategy in action and an important achievement of China–Mozambique economic cooperation. He added that the continued investment of Chinese enterprises in Mozambique reflects their confidence in the country’s economic potential and further strengthens the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
In recent years, Huaxin Building Materials Group has continued to expand its investment and technological upgrading in Mozambique while actively promoting localization and talent development. The Group has established an integrated industrial presence covering Matola in the south, Dondo in the central region, and Nacala in the north. The completion of the Nacala project marks another significant milestone in Huaxin Building Materials Group’s expansion in Africa and its internationalization strategy. Leveraging its strengths in technology, management, and industrial expertise, Huaxin Building Materials Group will continue contributing to the deepening of economic and trade cooperation between China and Mozambique.
