Under the attention of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, on the local time of May 5, MAWENI LIMESTONE LTD (hereinafter referred to as "MAWENI"), A SUBSIDIARY OF HUAXIN CEMENT, completed the transportation and delivery of 12,000 tons of cement in a single shipment from Tanga Port to Zanzibar Port in Tanzania, setting a new national record for single offshore loading and transportation.

HUAXIN CEMENT acquired MAWENI in 2019, through capacity expansion and technological upgrades, has become the largest cement producer in Tanzania. This 12,000-ton offshore shipment represents a significant exploration by the company to expand its market and reduce logistics costs. The products will be used for infrastructure construction in the Zanzibar region.

Both Tanga Port and Zanzibar Port are key ports in Tanzania. Tanga Port is located in Tanga Bay in the northeastern part of the country, while Zanzibar Port is situated on the Zanzibar Island off the Tanzanian mainland. The direct sailing distance between the two ports is 65 nautical miles. Due to limited experience in loading and unloading large cargo ships at both ports, this transportation task posed considerable challenges.

With the collaborative efforts of relevant Tanzanian government departments, the ports, MAWENI Company, and distributors, additional personnel and equipment were deployed to streamline each step, ultimately completing the loading and unloading tasks in a relatively short time. MAWENI’s 10,000-ton-plus shipment has provided valuable practical experience for Tanzania’s offshore transportation.

Since its launch in 2021, MAWENI’s products have been well-received by customers and have been used in several major projects, including the second-phase expansion of China Harbour’s Tanga Port, the Morogoro Hydroelectric Dam, the Kigoma Airport, the Central Electrified Railway, etc.
