Established in 1956, Portland Cement (Malawi) Limited is a leading cement product producer in Malawi. It has played an important role in assisting in nation-building in Malawi. The company operates 2 cement plants with cement capacity of 300,000 tpa. It has three core cement brands, among which Supaset is the ideal choice for heavy industry construction and the first choice for cement brick manufacturing; Duracrete is a multi-purpose cement with high quality standards and ease of application; Khoma is cement for all kinds of masonry work. To help customers upgrade their technical capabilities, the company has also set up specialized concrete laboratories in Blantyre, Lilongwe and other places to promote quality assurance and various research and development projects.

The 1500tpd kiln line project in the Balaka area started construction in 2024 and is planned to be ignited and put into production in October 2025.

In December 2025, the 2,000tpd clinker production line project at the Balaka plant was put into operation. The Balaka Plant is equipped with a 12MW coal captive power station, delivering an annual cement output of 800,000 tons. Adopting state-of-the-art energy-saving facility and low-carbon calcination technology, and deploying a full-process DCS automatic control system, the plant serves as an intelligent and green production line, fully demonstrating the technological strength and environmental philosophy of China’s manufacturing industry.

The commissioning of the Balaka Plant marks a major achievement under Malawi’s manufacturing development strategy. It will provide a stable supply of high-quality building materials for local infrastructure construction and further accelerate the country’s industrialization drive.
